Overview

Parkwest Bicycle Casino is seeking a highly motivated Safety Manager to join our dynamic Human Resources team.

 

The Safety Manager will develop, implement, and oversee all occupational health, public safety, and environmental compliance programs including but not limited to training managers and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, evaluate, and continuously improve the facility’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Emergency Action Plans, Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogens, Workplace Violence and any required safety programs to guarantee compliance with California regulations.
  • Conduct routine, comprehensive safety inspections across all public and back-of-house areas, including gaming floors, cages/vaults, restaurant kitchens, bars, housekeeping, facilities, warehouse, administrative offices, and parking structures.
  • Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
  • Reviews all team member injuries and guest incidents (slips, trips, falls). Documents findings with comprehensive reports, photographs, and root-cause analyses, working alongside HR and Legal in order to mitigate risks.
  • Develops and implement emergency response protocols for critical incidents such as structural fires, medical crises, natural disasters, power grid failures, and active shooter threats. Coordinates regular emergency drills across all shifts.
  • Establishes and facilitates a cross-departmental Safety Committee to review internal incident trends, evaluate frontline hazard reports, and champion a culture of safety among all shifts.
  • Designs and delivers engaging safety onboarding for new hires, as well as specialized ongoing training for high-exposure teams (e.g., proper lifting for valets, ergonomic training for dealers, and kitchen safety for food and beverage staff).
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for external regulatory bodies, including municipal fire departments, local law enforcement, emergency medical services, and Cal/OSHA representatives.
  • Trains management team throughout all properties on safety programs, inspections and other risks.
  • Shares environmental safety information with appropriate levels in the organization.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required by management.
  • Other projects or work-related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of HR best practices and employment law.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays, to effectively audit and support our 24/7 operational environment.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on the expansive gaming floor for prolonged periods, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs. during emergency response scenarios.
  • Ability and desire to train others and serve as a change agent.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record of interacting and communicating well with all management and team member levels.
  • Ability to review information in a factual and neutral manner, analyze data and prepare reports and documents in a timely manner.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to travel to all properties within California.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, or a related field is preferred. Professional credentials such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and possession of an OSHA 30-Hour General Industry card may be considered in lieu of required education.

 

Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of dedicated occupational health and safety experience, specifically in high-volume hospitality, casino, resort hotel or venue management environments.
Four-year degree in Human Resources or a related discipline or equivalent preferred. PHR /SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification a plus.
